Who is the Switch Witch? Technically, it’s me…or you. But in the eyes of our children, she is a candy loving, toy giving fool! She will be yours (and your children’s) favorite person, especially if your kids have food allergies or you can’t stand the thought of them consuming tons of high fructose, GMO-laden candies. I also have other options for Halloween candy below. But…back to the Switch Witch.
I had no idea she even existed until after Halloween last year. I would have given anything to have known about this little gem prior to my kids getting candy rushed, upset tummies. Ya’ll know I’m kind of a health food nut and having my kids consume tons of candy makes me cringe a little. So this year, I wanted to pass on this nugget of information to other moms who may not want their kids to eat candy for months.
So who is this Switch Witch I’m speaking of and what do I do with her?
There is a book about her, but I’m not here to pitch that. Super cute if you want to check it out though. But, here’s what you need to know to sell your kids on the Switch Witch.
**The Switch Witch lives on the dark side of the moon. And she LOVES candy. Of course, ALL witches loves candy, but none as much as her.
**She LOVES candy SO much that she’s eager to trade AMAZING toys to little boys and girls in exchange for their candy stash.
**Of course, the boys and girls can keep a LITTLE candy for themselves (mine will keep 5 pieces each), but the more they give the Switch Witch, the better their toy will be.
**She eats the boys and girls’ candy over the course of the year. As just as she runs out, it’s Halloween again – time for another visit from the Switch Witch.
**I’m going to have my boys leave their pails of candy on the fireplace and when they wake up in the morning, there will be a toy to replace it!
AND THAT’S IT!
**So go on your Amazon Prime tonight and order those little toys or stop by the store over the next 2 days and get to switching!
**And what do you do WITH ALL THAT CANDY or would you like to involve your kids in the donation process?? Here are some great options:
Treats For Troops Run by Soldier’s Angels, this program allows you to send sweets to soldiers. Kids can earn buyback prizes, and you can get a tax deductible receipt for your donation.
Operation Gratitude Candy Collectors You may be tired of those treats, but deployed troops and first responders will be touched that you sent them your sweets while they are working hard, far away from home. Last year, they received and distributed a record-breaking 533,891 pounds of candy! Now that’s a lot of mini Snickers.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Call your local chapter to find out rules on bringing your unopened Halloween candy for severely sick children and their families to enjoy. While your kids are out trick-or-treating, these families will appreciate the taste of the holiday being delivered to them while they are in need.
Other options (besides just throwing it out, or worse, binging on it yourself after the kids go to sleep!) include calling your local food pantry, homeless shelter or nursing home to see if they accept Halloween candy.
